Why give?

Cornerstone is a church that is made possible by the generous giving of its members, alumni, and friends. Cornerstone staff raise their salaries primarily through outside individuals and churches, but the everyday costs of our ministry are made possible by you.

At Cornerstone we believe that the giving of our finances is a part of our worship to God. We see a vivid example of this in Matthew 2. Upon hearing of the the birth of the Christ, the magi came to see and worship him and with them they brought gifts.

When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. And going into the house they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.
— Matthew 2:10-11

How much?

At Cornerstone we believe that God cares more about your heart than your gift.  We communicate the principal of generosity. To us this means the giving of a 10% tithe to your local church along with the giving of offerings to countless organizations*. God encourages us to be like him and give generously.

Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
— 2 Corinthians 9:7

Who sees?

At Cornerstone we believe that financial giving is a form of worship and obedience to the Lord and will not impact, either negatively or positively, ones relationship with the church. Therefore, we protect the confidentiality of your giving. Only those who have a need for the purpose of church financial accountability or transactional processing have access to giving information.

Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
— Matthew 6:1-4
